LASSEN VOLCANIC NATIONAL PARK - Visit a Volcano!

Sixty-five years before the eruption of Mount St. Helens, Mount Lassen blew its top (May 1915). Southernmost volcano in the Cascade Mountains, Lassen's eruption prompted creation of an exciting national park.

Lassen Volcanic National Park allows tourists to explore that historic event amid boiling mud pots, steaming ground, roaring fumaroles, and sulfurous gases that still occur among 30 volcanic domes in the area.

The park lies in pine covered mountains 50 miles east of Interstate 5. The southern entrance is 45 miles east on Highway 36 from Red Bluff -- or 50 miles east of Redding on Highway 36.
